What is Torchbearers ?

The Torchbearer ministry was founded by Major W. Ian Thomas in 1947. The work began in Capernwray Hall, an old castle surrounded by forests and farms near Lancaster, England. Presently Torchbearer International operates many Bible and Holiday Centers which are inter-denominational in nature for Christian fellowship and training.

Purpose

Torchbearers seek to share the Good News of salvation which is available to us through Jesus Christ and His work of salvation (His death on the cross and resurrection) on our behalf. This Good News is revealed to us through the Word of God, the Bible. Torchbearer Centers give opportunities for Christian fellowship and help churches by training people who have accepted salvation in Jesus Christ.

Brief Testimony

I was raised in a Christian home in Calgary, Canada, but never came to know Jesus personally until I was 17 years old.  Since that time, I have been on an adventure with God, learning to live in a way that honors Him, and seeking to serve others.

I am a carpenter by trade, and love to work with my hands.  But the work of my hands is only an extension of what is in my heart.  I want to use my whole mind, soul, and body to declare the riches of God, through the person of Jesus Christ.

I have always had a heart for those who have never heard the name of Jesus proclaimed in their own tongue.  Therefore it is my desire to display the Love and Life of Jesus to those who we live amongst in Yamanakako.  I trust that God will use us, as we make ourselves available to Him, to make His name known in our community.

We are truly passionate about seeing people come to trust God fully.  We have both lived in Japan in the past, and are excited to be back for good to join the ministry at Torchbearers Yamanakako.  We have a special place in our hearts for the Bible School ministry, as we both attended Capernwray Harbour Bible School in Canada, and our lives were changed there.  We came away challenged, humbled, and knowing the Lord Jesus in a more intimate way than ever before.

It is our desire to serve the Japanese church as well, providing a place of quietness away from the busy life of the Japanese.  Providing rest, encouragement, and perspective, in a beautiful setting like Yamanakako, is a task that is both challenging and exciting.  Please pray together with us, that we will be salt and light, in a place where the Lord is only known by few.

I invite you to join us in being Jesus’ hands and feet to those around us.  Allowing the life of Christ to dwell in us, and overflowing to those around us.
